Nurturing babies and toddlers from the heart and the head - July

Baby and toddler workshop

When we act to nurture comfort, emotional security and trust then we are providing the foundations for a child's wellbeing and learning. This workshop explores an educator's role in providing sensitive and respectful care for babies and toddlers to promote their wellbeing, and their learning through their interactions with people and the environment.

You will engage in experiences to:

  • look at babies with fresh eyes and consider ways of demonstrating respectful practice, based on the work of Dr. Emmi Pikler
  • discuss understanding of relevant theories and use these to guide your practice with babies and toddlers
  • identify babies' cues and respond to meet their needs using the 'with and not to' approach to provide sensitive care and rhythm in routines
  • provide an engaging curriculum for sensory exploration and learning through trial and error
  • examine approaches and experiences to engage babies and toddlers for their holistic development
  • discuss creating a healthy, safe and supportive environment, and how to develop genuine partnerships with families
