Developing the whole child series

FD 3 6Series of 3 workshops on SEP 3, OCT 8 and NOV 5: at 9am - 2.30pm
This series provides educators with deep and inspired understanding of Quality Area 1 Educational program and practice and the EYLF Practices. Using the work of Loris Malaguzzi, you will consider your image of a child and how that informs your teaching.

You will become focused on providing children with rich and authentic learning experiences, based on your observations and meaningful documentation of each child's current knowledge, strengths, ideas, culture, abilities and interests.

SEP 3: Weaving theorists and practice for holistic development and wellbeing

This session supports your knowledge and thinking to:

  • understand how the stages of child development and a range of developmental theories relate to your practice and the National Quality Framework.
  • establish the links between physical, social, emotional and cognitive development and a child's wellbeing
  • consider factors that influence a child's holistic development
  • plan and create play environments for holistic learning, through inquiry, exploration and experimentation
  • plan and provide experiences that cater for multiple intelligences, children's abilities and success
  • guide the process of learning and create challenge to support independence and a confident self-identity
  • create a language and literacy enriched environment
  • monitor children’s skills and development to consider how to improve planned experiences and scaffold learning

OCT 8: Planning a child-centred, nature based curriculum for learning through play

Use our virtual tour into inspirational curriculum and your taste of nature play to reflect on ways to:

  • use the environment as the third teacher
  • increase the learning capacity of your curriculum
  • promote nature play and an appreciation of the natural environment
  • plan and evaluate the curriculum based on each child's culture, interests, knowledge and abilities

NOV 5: Using meaningful documentation to develop the whole child

You will feel new prpose in observing and documenting chidlren's learning to use this information for sharing, evaluating their progress and planning experiences for the child. We explore the cycle of:


  • Explore the myths and facts around documentation - understand how to collect 'quality information' about each child and their learning progress


  • Use tools and skills to assess a child's learning and co-construct meaning from information
  • Complete summative assessment to assess and plan for a child's progress in the five learning outcomes


  • Use information to plan for learning and to lead the direction of the educational program
