Meeting children's needs: planning for cooperative behaviour and inclusion

FD 3 36

Series of 2 workshops on APR 11 & MAY 16: at 9am - 2pm

Understanding what drives children's behaviour and being able to provide for children's needs are vital skills in our role to promote Belonging, Being and Becoming for all children. In this series of two workshops we develop pland and strategies to promote to develop children's wellbeing, self-regulation skills, and to support inclusion.

APR 11: Understand behaviour from a child's perspective

This workshop helps you to understand behaviour from the child's perspective and to:

  • consider the child's needs that may be causing the behaviour
  • analyse behaviour to identify triggers and reinforcers to the behaviour
  • review the environment, routines and program for influences on behaviour and to reduce children's stress and frustration
  • reflect on your own approach and response strategies to ensure positive, consistent and respectful practice is used
  • work within a team to develop and in partnership with families to implement a plan to support a child to manage their own behaviour

MAY 16: Promote and plan for inclusion

The understanding that diversity and inclusion contribute to the richness of children's experiences and to the richness of our society enables us to respect similarities and differences. This workshop will inspire you to provide opportunities for children to appreciate and learn about diversity, inclusion and fairness. You will:

  • identify barriers to learning
  • overview additional support needs
  • explore ways to work in partnerships focusing on the range of a child's abilities and needs
  • use a case study of a child with Autism to develop a plan and implement strategies to support his needs and abilities.

Workshop series facilitators: Justine Turvey and Andrea Isitt
