This page explains fees, payment options and refunds for our Career Qualifications (including Queensland Government subsidised training). For Career Qualifications, your exact arrangement will be confirmed in your Student Fees Agreement and payment schedule issued during enrolment.
1. How fees are set up
During enrolment we create a personalised Student Fees Agreement and monthly fee payment schedule for each student.
Our payment plans are required to:
- maintain the required minimum monthly payment for your course
- be paid over a maximum of 14 monthly payments
- ensure all course fees are paid in advance and paid in full before completion of the final unit
2. Payment options
Option A — Monthly payment plan (automatic card payments)
We offer an automatic monthly payment plan linked to your nominated debit or credit card. You must maintain the minimum monthly amount set in your Student Fees Agreement.
Option B — Three-instalment payment plan (where offered)
For eligible full fee-paying students (and some trainees/apprentices over 25), we may offer payment in three instalments:
- Instalment 1: at enrolment and before commencing training (up to $1,000)
- Instalment 2: 6 months after course commencement (half of the remaining balance)
- Instalment 3: 12 months after course commencement (the final balance)
Payment processing, failed payments, and disputes
- Prices are in AUD unless stated otherwise and include GST where applicable.
- Payment must be made using the payment methods we make available at checkout/enrolment.
- If a payment fails or is reversed, we may suspend access until payment is resolved.
Chargebacks and payment disputes
- If you lodge a chargeback or payment dispute with your bank/card provider, we may suspend access to the Course while the dispute is investigated.
- You agree to first contact us at admin@firstdoor.com.au to attempt resolution before lodging a chargeback, where reasonably practicable.
- If a chargeback is determined in our favour, you remain liable for the Fees and any reasonable costs incurred by us in responding to the dispute.
- Nothing in this clause limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).
Fees in advance limit
No more than $1,500 can be paid as fees in advance.
If you progress faster than planned
If you change the way you complete assessment, or progress faster than one unit per month, your payment plan may be adjusted to match your training pace. We may issue an additional invoice and/or adjust your regular payments.

7A. Refunds (Career Qualifications)
Australian Consumer Law
Nothing in this policy limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).
Full refund (unit fees paid in advance prior to commencement)
A student will receive a full refund of unit fees paid in advance and prior to commencement of training in these circumstances:
- Provider cancellation: if First Door cancels training/assessment because a qualification/unit is cancelled or we are unable to provide training and assessment.
- Student cancellation with notice: if a student provides at least two weeks’ notice to cancel prior to their first unit start date, they will receive a full refund of unit fees paid in advance.
- The enrolment fee paid for the enrolment process and access to resources is non-refundable.
- Skills Assure: Student Contribution fee refunds apply in line with the Addendum below (including refunds for units not yet commenced).
Important: When a student withdraws or cancels a training contract, the student must complete a course withdrawal form.
Addendum: Queensland Government Subsidised Training (Skills Assure)
For students enrolled under a Queensland Government subsidy (including Certificate 3 Guarantee, Higher Level Skills, or Apprenticeships/Traineeships), the following refund provisions apply to Student Contribution Fees and supersede any conflicting general refund terms:
- Proportionate Refund: If a student withdraws from a qualification or a unit of competency after training has commenced, First Door will provide a proportionate refund of any Student Contribution Fees paid in advance for units of competency not yet commenced at the time of withdrawal.
- Definition of Commencement: A unit is deemed to have commenced if the student has attended a scheduled training session, accessed learning materials via the online portal, or submitted any portion of an assessment for that unit.
- Automated Payment Plans: Where a student is on a monthly payment plan, First Door will calculate the balance of fees paid against units commenced. Any credit balance for units that are not yet commenced will be refunded within 14 days of the formal withdrawal being processed.
- No penalty/administrative fee: No penalty or administrative fee will be applied to refunds for government-subsidised students, in accordance with the Skills Assure Supplier Policy.
Compassionate partial refund (fee-paying students)
Compassionate partial refunds may be considered where a fee-paying student withdraws for personal circumstances beyond their control (e.g., bereavement, significant injury/illness impacting ability to perform job role).
Requests must be made in writing with supporting information. Eligibility and amount (if any) will be assessed based on:
- services already provided to the student, and
- costs incurred by First Door in providing those services.
Decisions will be made acting reasonably and consistent with the ACL.
No refund on prepaid unit fees (unless required by ACL)
Except where required under the ACL, no refund is provided on prepaid course unit fees if:
- the Student withdraws from the course on or after the agreed start date
- First Door cancels the Student’s enrolment due to misconduct or breaches of assessment or eLearning conditions
- the Student does not commence or submit work within the agreed course timeframe and/or does not respond to contact attempts, resulting in termination of enrolment after we have followed student support processes
Students may request a course extension in writing if they have a valid reason (subject to approval).
Note: The sections above relate to Career Qualifications (accredited training). The cooling-off period below applies only to Online Courses (Professional Development) purchased via learn.firstdoor.com.au or 3rd party payment processors used by First Door.
7B. Online Courses (PD) – cooling-off and refunds
For Online Courses (PD) purchased via learn.firstdoor.com.au (or our linked checkout), we offer a 10-day cooling-off period from the date of purchase.
A full refund will only be provided where the course has not been Accessed (as defined in our Terms & Conditions)
Once an Online Course has been Accessed, no refund is available for change-of-mind cancellations, including where you decide the course is not suitable, you did not have time to complete it, or you simply no longer wish to proceed.
Nothing in this clause limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. If you are entitled to a remedy under the ACL (for example, a major failure), the ACL will apply regardless of this clause.
For the meaning of “Accessed (Online Courses)”, refer to the definition in our Terms & Conditions.
