Why focus on children's agency?

You'll leave this workshop inspired to focus on promoting children's agency, with strategies on how to fill their Mastery/Power and Freedom Cups ©. We explore approaches and practices to provide for children's recognition, competence and control; and for Freedom Cup filling by providing for choice, autonomy and agency.

You will engage in practical experiences to:

  • understand why 'agency' is important for children and their learning
  • use theoretical and hands-on approaches to reflect on and improve your child-focused pedagogy
  • know drawbacks to using control, praise and rewards systems
  • shift your practice to using real choices and affirming effort and qualities
